Malibu Sunset

The Malibu Sunset cocktail combines pineapple and orange juices with coconut-flavored rum and grenadine syrup, layered to create a colorful sun-like gradient in the glass. Served over ice and garnished with maraschino cherries, pineapple chunks, and orange slices, it offers a sweet and fruity drink with tropical notes and visually appealing layers.

Description

Malibu Sunset is a layered cocktail made by mixing pineapple juice, orange juice, and coconut-flavored rum, then pouring grenadine syrup slowly down the side of the glass without stirring. This technique allows the grenadine to settle, creating the signature sunrise or sunset gradient effect. The drink is served in a tall Collins glass over ice, garnished with maraschino cherries, pineapple chunks, and orange slices.

The flavor profile is sweet and tropical, with the combination of citrus juices and coconut rum providing tropical fruit notes balanced by the rich grenadine sweetness. The drink is visually attractive with distinct layered colors and is best enjoyed immediately after preparation to maintain the layered appearance.

For making larger quantities, the juice and rum mixture can be prepared ahead and refrigerated, with grenadine and garnishes added before serving. Avoid stirring after adding the grenadine to maintain the layered effect.
