Maple Blueberry Turkey Sausage Breakfast Patties
Description
The patties balance savory and sweet ingredients: ground turkey is enriched with garlic and herbs like sage and thyme, complemented by warm spices such as cumin, ginger, and allspice, plus a pinch of cayenne for subtle heat. Fresh or frozen blueberries are gently folded in to add moisture and fruity contrast. A splash of pure maple syrup ties the flavors together with sweetness.
Cooking in a nonstick skillet with coconut oil over medium heat ensures even browning and thorough cooking without drying out the meat. Forming thin patties helps them cook swiftly and evenly, producing a browned exterior and tender interior.
These patties can be served as a breakfast protein alongside eggs, with a slight drizzle of maple syrup to enhance the sweetness. They make a flavorful alternative to traditional breakfast sausages and serve about four people, assuming two patties each.
Leftovers freeze well in airtight containers and can be reheated as needed for a quick meal.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground turkey 93% lean, do not use extra lean
- 2 garlic cloves, finely minced
- 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon sage fresh, chopped, about 4 medium leaves
- ½ teaspoon thyme dried
- ½ teaspoon cumin ground
- ½ teaspoon ground ginger
- ¼ teaspoon allspice
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- black pepper freshly ground
- ⅓ cup blueberries fresh or frozen
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil or olive oil, for cooking
Instructions
- Place all ingredients besides the blueberries and oil in a large bowl and use your hands to mix until well combined. Add in blueberries and gently incorporate them into the meat. Form into 8 even sized patties, about 1/3 inch thick. Make sure the blueberries are tucked into the meat or they may pop out upon cooking.
- Add 1 teaspoon coconut oil to a nonstick skillet and place over medium heat. Add turkey patties and cook for about 5 minutes then flip and cook for another 4-5 minutes or until fully cooked.
- To prepare a plate, pair two breakfast patties with 2 fried eggs. Drizzle sausage patties with just a tiny bit of maple syrup and enjoy! Serves 4, 2 patties each.
Notes
- Use 93% lean ground turkey to keep patties moist but not greasy.
- Gently fold in blueberries to prevent bursting during cooking.
- Freeze leftovers in sealed containers for future breakfasts.
- Serve pairs of patties with fried eggs and a small drizzle of maple syrup.
