Maple Glazed Ham Recipe

This Maple Glazed Ham uses a bone-in butt or shank ham baked slowly and brushed with a glaze made from pure maple syrup, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and apple cider vinegar. The glaze is applied midway and basted regularly, creating a sweet and tangy coating that caramelizes nicely on the ham's surface. After baking, the ham is rested before carving, resulting in moist, flavorful slices suitable for special meals or holiday gatherings.

Description

The Maple Glazed Ham Recipe features a generously sized bone-in ham that is first rinsed and dried. It is then placed fat side up in a shallow baking dish and baked at a low temperature to cook evenly without drying out. The glaze, composed of maple syrup, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and apple cider vinegar, is stirred together and brushed onto the ham halfway through baking. Regular basting helps develop a glossy, caramelized surface without burning, with foil tenting used if caramelization progresses too quickly. The ham is fully cooked when it reaches an internal temperature of 140°F and allowed to rest before slicing to retain juices.

This preparation delivers a balance of sweetness from maple and brown sugar with a subtle tang from mustard and vinegar, complementing the savory richness of the ham. It is suitable for carving platters served at family dinners or Holiday feasts.

The recipe note clarifies that provided nutrition facts are estimates, so cooks wanting precise dietary information should calculate based on the ham size and glaze quantities used.
