Maple Sausage French Toast Bake
Description
The Maple Sausage French Toast Bake begins by cooking and draining breakfast sausage, which is layered within cubed French bread that has been soaked in a mixture of eggs, milk, salt, maple syrup, and brown sugar. The bread mixture is divided to sandwich the sausage, creating distinct savory layers within the sweet custardy base. After spreading brown sugar and drizzling additional maple syrup on top, the casserole is covered and refrigerated for at least eight hours, allowing the bread to fully absorb the egg mixture for a tender, baked texture.
Baked uncovered at 350°F for about an hour, this dish develops a golden surface with sweet maple notes and a combination of textures: soft soaked bread and savory sausage. The slow soak and bake method creates a satisfying balance between rich creaminess and hearty sausage pieces.
This casserole is well suited for weekend brunches or holiday breakfasts. Its make-ahead nature allows time-saving preparation for serving multiple people. It pairs well with fresh fruit or coffee for a complete morning meal.
