Marinated Pork Chops
Description
This recipe begins by combining vegetable oil with Bragg's liquid aminos (a soy sauce alternative), brown sugar, rice vinegar, A1 sauce, lemon juice, whole seed mustard, salt, black pepper, dried thyme, cumin, and cayenne pepper to create a complex marinade. The pork chops are sealed in this mixture and refrigerated for a minimum of six hours to absorb the flavors and tenderize.
The balanced marinade provides savory umami from the liquid aminos and A1 sauce, sweetness from brown sugar, acidity from rice vinegar and lemon juice, and aromatic depth from spices including thyme, cumin, and cayenne for gentle heat. This careful combination results in flavorful pork chops without overpowering the meat’s natural taste.
After marinating, the pork chops are removed from the marinade and cooked by grilling or pan-frying. The marinade liquid is discarded and not used during cooking to ensure food safety. The resulting pork chops offer juicy texture with a well-rounded flavor profile adapted from the marinade components.
The recipe’s simplicity and the combination of accessible ingredients make it straightforward while producing seasoned pork chops suitable for a main course with complementary side dishes.
Ingredients
- ¾ Cup vegetable oil you can use Olive oil – or any kind of oil you like – but I was running low on Olive Oil and this is what I had available.
- ⅓ Cup Bragg's liquid aminos Use Soy Sauce if you don’t have Braggs - but you should really get some Braggs - and they don’t pay me to say that either
- 1 Tbs brown sugar
- ¼ Cup rice vinegar you can use regular white vinegar.
- 2 tbs A1 sauce
- 1 Tbs lemon juice
- 1 tbs whole seed mustard really good
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon thyme dried
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 4 pork chops bone in
Instructions
- Put all ingredients in a re-sealable plastic bag. Seal well, swish the ingredients around and place in the fridge at least 6 hours before you plan to use
- Remove from the fridge, remove the pork chops from the liquid and throw the liquid away. Do not use the marinade to baste the chops with during cooking – this could make someone sick. Grill or pan fry the chops. Yum!
Notes
- Marinate the pork chops in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours to ensure proper flavor absorption and tenderizing.
- Do not reuse the marinade for basting or serving to avoid food safety risks; discard it after removing the pork chops.
- Vegetable oil can be substituted with olive oil or other preferred oils based on availability and taste preference.
- Bragg's liquid aminos can be replaced with soy sauce if not available, though Bragg's offers a unique flavor.
