Maroulosalata
Description
Maroulosalata combines chopped romaine lettuce with thinly sliced green onions and freshly chopped dill, providing layers of crisp texture and herbal flavor. The dressing uses olive oil and vinegar (or optionally lemon juice) seasoned with salt and pepper to lightly coat the greens without overpowering their freshness. The ingredients are mixed to combine evenly, allowing the herbs and acidity to enhance the lettuce’s natural crunch.
This salad is traditionally served as a side accompanying meals, offering a refreshing contrast with clean flavors. It is best enjoyed on the day it is made to maintain the lettuce’s crispness. If preparing ahead, the salad ingredients and dressing can be stored separately and combined just before serving to preserve texture.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ romaine lettuce heads
- 5 green onion sprigs
- 1/3 cup dill chopped, fresh
- 2 tbsp. olive oil
- 2 tbsp. vinegar (or substitute with lemon juice)
- 1 tsp. salt
- ½ tsp. black pepper
Instructions
- Wash the romaine lettuce and chop to your desired size.
- Transfer to a large bowl.
- Thinly slice the green onion and add it to the bowl along with the freshly chopped dill.
- Add the olive oil, vinegar, salt, and black pepper.
- Mix to combine, and adjust seasoning to taste.
- Serve this delicious salad as a side dish to any meal!!
Notes
- For meal prep, store chopped lettuce, green onion, and dill separately from the olive oil, vinegar, and salt until ready to serve.
- Mix dressing and salad ingredients just before serving to keep the greens crisp.
- Lemon juice can be used instead of vinegar according to preference.
