Matcha Latte 抹茶ラテ

Matcha Latte 抹茶ラテ is a creamy beverage combining finely whisked quality matcha powder with hot water and frothed milk. The drink balances the matcha’s grassy bitterness with the softness and warmth of steamed milk, resulting in a smooth, bright green latte with a lightly sweet, earthy flavor.

Description

This matcha latte begins by placing matcha powder into a bowl and whisking it vigorously with hot water at a temperature around 175°F (80°C) to produce a smooth, lump-free green tea base. High-quality matcha is preferred for delicate flavors and vibrant color. Milk is then steamed or frothed to 140-160°F (60-70°C), creating a creamy texture that complements the matcha’s natural vegetal notes. Pouring the milk into the tea creates a balance of flavors and a visually appealing latte.

Optionally, matcha powder can be sifted on top for presentation. The recipe is flexible regarding milk choice, accommodating dairy or plant-based milks. Frothing can be done with an espresso machine milk frother or other kitchen tools to achieve the desired texture. The final served latte offers a mildly bitter, refreshing, and comforting drink.

  • To prevent lumps, whisk matcha powder thoroughly or sift it before adding water if a bamboo whisk is unavailable.
