This matcha latte begins by placing matcha powder into a bowl and whisking it vigorously with hot water at a temperature around 175°F (80°C) to produce a smooth, lump-free green tea base. Milk is then steamed or frothed to 140-160°F (60-70°C), creating a creamy texture that complements the matcha’s natural vegetal notes. Pouring the milk into the tea creates a balance of flavors and a visually appealing latte.
Optionally, matcha powder can be sifted on top for presentation. The recipe is flexible regarding milk choice, accommodating dairy or plant-based milks. Frothing can be done with an espresso machine milk frother or other kitchen tools to achieve the desired texture. The final served latte offers a mildly bitter, refreshing, and comforting drink.
