Mexican Hibiscus Cinnamon Tea (Té de Jamaica y Canela)
Description
This tea begins by boiling water and steeping cinnamon sticks and dried hibiscus flowers together for about an hour off the heat, allowing the flavors to meld and develop a vibrant red color. The mixture is then strained, discarding the solids, and diluted with additional water to taste. It can be served chilled or heated, and sweeteners like sugar or honey may be added according to preference.
The resulting beverage is tart and slightly spicy, capturing the characteristic hibiscus tang alongside the aromatic warmth of cinnamon. It's popular in Mexican cuisine and can be served on its own or with a splash of sparkling water for a bubbly version when served cold.
This tea is a refreshing and simple option to prepare ahead and enjoy throughout the day. Its ingredients are shelf-stable, making it convenient for repeated use or entertaining.
