Microwave Baked Potatoes Recipe

Report
This Microwave Baked Potatoes Recipe quickly cooks whole russet potatoes using a microwave, offering a fast alternative to traditional oven baking. The potatoes cook until soft, with a skin that retains some firmness, making them suitable for various toppings, from butter and sour cream to meats and vegetables. This method is ideal when stove or oven time is limited but a baked potato is desired.

Description

The recipe involves washing whole russet potatoes and optionally piercing them with a fork before microwaving on high power for about 20 minutes total, flipping halfway through. The time may vary depending on the size and number of potatoes. The cooking process softens the potato interiors while keeping the skins intact.

This approach produces a different texture compared to oven-baked potatoes; the skin is not as crisp but the interior is tender and ready for topping. It allows a simple, rapid way to prepare a classic comfort food.

Microwave baked potatoes can be served with a variety of toppings, making them versatile for different meals, and can be accompanied by a salad or used as a base for loaded potato dishes.

Adjust cooking times as needed for potato size and microwave wattage to ensure doneness. Handling hot potatoes carefully is important when removing from the microwave.

Instructions

  1. Wash potatoes thoroughly.
  2. Poke them with a fork a few times (this is optional, but makes me feel better) ;)
  3. Place in the microwave - no container needed. I put them on a paper towel, but you don't have to.
  4. Cook on high for about 10 minutes.
  5. Flip each potato (careful it will be hot)
  6. Cook on high for another 10 minutes.
  7. They should feel soft to touch when they are done. 20 minutes was plenty with 4 big ones we had. You may need to increase or decrease time a little depending on how many potatoes you are cooking.

Notes

  • Pair the baked potatoes with a fresh salad or use as a base for toppings like meat, cheese, or vegetables for a complete meal.
  • Cooking time may vary depending on the size and number of potatoes, so adjust accordingly for softness.
