Mint Julep
Description
The Mint Julep is made by gently muddling fresh mint leaves with simple syrup to release their essential oils without tearing the leaves too much, preserving a fresh herbal flavor. Adding bourbon layered over crushed ice chills and dilutes the drink slightly, balancing the sweetness and alcohol strength.
The cocktail is stirred until the glass frosts, indicating it is well chilled, and topped with more crushed ice to create a dome that retains coldness. Garnishing with additional mint leaves enhances the fresh aroma as you sip.
This drink is traditionally served in a julep cup but is equally enjoyable in a highball glass. Adjusting the simple syrup quantity allows for customizing sweetness to taste.
