Mixed Berry Smoothie Recipe
Description
This Mixed Berry Smoothie Recipe combines thawed frozen berries and banana for natural sweetness and fruitiness. Milk and Greek yogurt provide creaminess and body, while the optional sweetener and lemon zest let you adjust sweetness and brightness to taste. Blending gradually from low to high ensures the softer ingredients move toward the blades, producing a smooth, creamy texture with well-incorporated flavors.
The smoothie works well as a quick breakfast, post-workout refuel, or a healthy snack. The berries offer antioxidants and natural sugars, supported by protein and probiotics from yogurt. The recipe can accommodate multiple types of milk and yogurt based on preference, including plant-based options.
Before blending, letting frozen berries thaw briefly helps ease the process. Smoothie ingredients can be pre-measured and frozen for convenience, with thawing time recommended to ensure proper blending. Additional stirring during blending can help incorporate all components evenly.
Ingredients
- 2 cups mixed berries thawed for 5 minutes, frozen
- 1 banana cut into 1-inch chunks, medium
- ½ cup milk
- ¼ cup Greek yogurt
- 1-2 tablespoons sweetener optional
- 1 teaspoon lemon optional, zest
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a blender such as a Vitamix or Nutribullet. Place the softer ingredients closer to the blade and the harder ingredients further from the blade.
- Start blending on low and gradually increase to high, blending for about 1-2 minutes total, or until you reach a creamy consistency. If your blender has trouble, stop and stir, or add a bit more liquid. You may also need to scrape down the sides of the container to ensure everything is well mixed.
- Add additional sweetener, to taste, and re-blend if needed. Serve with fresh berries and additional lemon zest, if desired.
Notes
- This recipe yields two standard 8-ounce servings or one large 16-ounce smoothie.
- If preferred, use different milk types such as oat, almond, or soy instead of regular milk.
- Various yogurts like goat or plant-based options can replace Greek yogurt for dietary needs.
- To prepare ahead, mix ingredients in a freezer-safe container and freeze up to 3-4 months; thaw for 20-30 minutes before blending.
