Muhamarra (roasted red pepper & walnut dip)

Muhamarra is a textured, vibrant dip featuring roasted red bell peppers blended with walnut halves, bread crumbs, olive oil, and a blend of spices including chili powder, cayenne, and smoked paprika. The pomegranate molasses adds a tangy sweetness and depth of flavor. This dip offers a balance of smoky, sweet, and nutty notes, with a combination of smoothness and slight crunch from the nuts and crumbs. It's served garnished with olive oil, chopped walnuts, and thyme leaves and pairs well with pita chips, triangles, or fresh vegetables.

Description

This Muhamarra recipe combines roasted red bell peppers with walnuts, breadcrumbs, olive oil, and a distinctive spice mix to create a rich, flavorful dip. The peppers and olive oil form a smooth base blended with pomegranate molasses, which contributes a fruity acidity that balances the earthiness of the walnuts. Spices including chili powder, cayenne, and smoked paprika add warmth and complexity, while salt enhances the overall taste. The walnuts and breadcrumbs are pulsed in to maintain some texture so the dip retains a bit of bite rather than being fully pureed. Once prepared, it is garnished with further olive oil, chopped walnuts, and fresh thyme leaves. Muhamarra serves well as a dip for pita bread or chips and fresh-cut vegetables, offering an appealing texture and bold Mediterranean-inspired flavors.
