Mulled Wine
Description
This recipe for Mulled Wine uses a bottle of red wine such as Cabernet Sauvignon combined with brandy to enhance its richness. Honey sweetens the drink naturally while the cinnamon stick and star anise provide warm, spicy aroma and flavor. Fresh lemon and orange juices add brightness and balance the sweetness. The ingredients are boiled briefly then simmered on low heat for 15 minutes to meld the flavors without evaporating the alcohol completely.
The resulting beverage is smooth and fragrant with a gentle sweetness and spiced complexity. The orange slices garnishing the wine contribute a fresh citrus aroma and can be served alongside to complement each sip. Mulled Wine is typically served warm in mugs or heatproof glasses, making it ideal for holiday gatherings or chilly evenings.
