Mushroom Gravy Recipe

Mushroom Gravy blends sautéed mushrooms and onions in butter with flour to create a thickened base, enriched with broth and half-and-half for creaminess. Fresh dill adds a distinctive herbal note. The result is a smooth, creamy gravy with earthy mushroom flavors that accompanies mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or proteins well.

Description

This Mushroom Gravy Recipe begins by sautéing sliced mushrooms and chopped onions in unsalted butter until softened and translucent, which builds a flavorful base. Adding flour and cooking it a few minutes removes raw taste and helps thicken the sauce upon adding liquids.

Incorporating half-and-half and broth brings creaminess and depth, while simmering develops a rich consistency. Fresh chopped dill stirred in during the final minutes elevates the flavor with a subtle fresh herb aroma. Seasoning with salt and black pepper adjusts the taste to preference.

The gravy pairs well with side dishes like mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables, or it can complement meats. It is best served immediately to retain its smooth texture and fresh flavors.
