Mushroom Steak Sauce

This mushroom steak sauce is a rich, savory accompaniment made by sautéing mushrooms and garlic in butter, then thickening with flour and simmering in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. The addition of optional steak pan drippings enhances its meaty depth, while parsley adds a fresh finish. The sauce is perfect for spooning over steak or other proteins to add earthy, buttery flavor.

Description

The Mushroom Steak Sauce starts with sautéing sliced mushrooms in butter until browned and softened, infusing the sauce with deep umami notes. Garlic is added briefly for aromatic enhancement, then flour is stirred in to create a roux that thickens the sauce. Slowly whisking in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and optional steak pan drippings brings a savory, robust base. Simmering the mixture until just thickened develops a smooth consistency, then a final addition of butter enriches the sauce with gloss and silkiness. Chopped parsley adds a light herbal touch.

This sauce is crafted to complement the bold flavors of grilled or pan-cooked steak but also works well with other meats or hearty dishes. Its balance of mushroom earthiness and the tang of Worcestershire sauce creates a versatile topping.
