Naan Pizza
Description
Naan Pizza uses naan bread as a base to create individual pizzas with a crispy, buttery edge and a soft center. The crust is enhanced by brushing with a savory mixture of melted butter, garlic powder, and Parmesan cheese before layering with pizza sauce, mozzarella, and chosen toppings. Baking at 450°F crisps the bread’s edge while melting cheese and cooking toppings efficiently within about 10 minutes total.
The recipe supports a range of toppings such as pepperoni, mushrooms, sausage, and vegetables, allowing adaptations to personal taste. Using low-moisture mozzarella helps to achieve a rich melt without excess moisture. The pizza can be prepared in an oven or on a grill, providing flexibility for cooking methods.
Serving with garlic bread with cheese complements the pizza well. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container refrigerated for several days or frozen. Reheating from frozen by baking until heated through restores texture. Brands like Stonefire naan and Rao’s marinara sauce are recommended for convenience and flavor but can be substituted.
Ingredients
- 1 cup pizza sauce
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese
- Pizza toppings of choice see notes
- 2 Tablespoons Parmesan Cheese grated
- red pepper flakes to garnish
For the Crust
- 4 lices naan bread
- 1.5 tablespoons butter melted
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Parmesan Cheese grated
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
- Combine melted butter, garlic powder, and Parmesan cheese. Brush the outer edge of each pizza where the crust will be.
- Spread pizza sauce over the top of each pizza, leaving room around the edge where the crust is.
- Sprinkle mozzarella cheese in an even layer over the top. Add desired pizza toppings, then sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
- Bake for 5 minutes. Rotate baking sheet/pizza stone 180 degrees and bake for 5 more minutes. Ovens vary slightly so check on it 2 minutes beforehand.
- Remove from oven and create one vertical and one horizontal slice using a long chef’s knife or a pizza cutter. Sprinkle with red pepper flakes if desired and serve with garlic bread with cheese.
Notes
- Use low-moisture mozzarella for best melting and texture on pizza.
- Slice vegetables or raw meats into small pieces to ensure they cook thoroughly in the short baking time.
- Stonefire naan bread is a good option, found in bakery or deli sections of grocery stores.
- Pizza sauces like Rao’s Marinara or homemade marinara can be used for preferred flavor.
- Alternatively, cook pizzas on a preheated grill at medium-high heat with indirect flame, covered, for about 10 minutes until cheese melts.
- Store leftover naan pizzas in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days or freeze up to 3 months; reheat in oven at 375°F for 10-12 minutes.
