Ninja Foodi Air Fryer Rice
Description
This recipe outlines cooking basmati rice using a Ninja Foodi air fryer with dual methods depending on the model's features. Using the pressure cook function, rinsed rice, water, and salt are combined in the pot, sealed, cooked at high pressure for 3 minutes, then allowed to naturally release steam for 10 minutes. This yields tender rice grains slightly above al dente if the water ratio is followed.
Alternatively, if the air fryer lacks a pot or pressure cook function, rinsed rice is placed in a baking tin with boiling water and salt, covered tightly with foil, and air fried at 380°F for about 20 minutes. The rice is then allowed to rest covered before fluffing, producing a similarly cooked rice with some bite depending on water quantity.
The rinsing step contributes to fluffier rice by removing debris and excess starch. Attention to the water-to-rice ratio is essential to avoid mushy or undercooked results. Cooking times may vary based on air fryer model, so adjustments might be necessary for optimal texture.
Serving freshly cooked rice immediately with main dishes is suggested. The method accommodates preferences for softer or firmer rice by modifying water levels slightly.
Ingredients
- 1 cup basmati rice
- 1¼ cup water use one cup of water if you prefer your rice to have a bite to it, or low-sodium broth
- ½ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Using a bowl or a mesh strainer, clean the rice until the water run clear.
- Put the rice inside the pot that came with your Ninja Foodi, add the salt and water, then combine. Close the lid and set the nozzle at the top to the seal position. (See the notes below on what to do If your air fryer does not come with a pot or pressure cooking function).* Program your air fryer to use the pressure cook function at high, and set the time to 3 minutes. Once this time is over, allow it to naturally pressure release for 10 minutes.
- Once the 10 minutes are over, set the nozzle to vent to release any remaining steam, then carefully fluff using a fork or something similar. Serve immediately with your favorite main dishes.
Air frying instructions
- Clean rice until the water runs clear. Transfer the rice to a baking tin, add boiling water, salt, or your preferred seasoning (rice to water ratio of 1:25).
- Air fry at 380F/ approx. 190°C for 20 minutes. Once done, remove the baking tin from the air fryer, allow the rice to rest covered for 10 minutes, carefully remove the foil, then fluff using a fork. Serve as preferred.
Notes
- Rinsing rice before cooking removes excess starch and helps achieve fluffier grains.
- Maintain careful water-to-rice ratios to prevent mushy or overly chewy rice textures.
- For models without pressure cooking pots, use a baking tin with foil to cook rice in the air fryer.
- Allow rice to rest after cooking while covered to finish steaming evenly before fluffing.
- Adjust cooking time if rice isn’t tender enough due to inconsistencies between air fryer models.
