No Knead Easy Bread Recipe
Description
The No Knead Easy Bread Recipe combines basic pantry ingredients—flour, salt, yeast, and water—into a simple dough that is mixed and left to ferment overnight. This long rise time encourages gluten development and fermentation without needing physical kneading, resulting in a rustic bread.
After an initial rest up to 24 hours, the dough becomes wet and bubbly. Shaping it gently into a round on a floured surface and allowing a final one-hour rise helps improve the texture. Baking at a high temperature with a tray of water initially creates steam that crisps the crust and browns the loaf evenly. The steam is removed partway through baking to finish with a golden top.
This bread is practical for home bakers who want fresh bread with minimal hands-on work. It pares down the process while still producing a loaf with a crisp crust and tender interior. It pairs well with toppings, sandwiches, or as an accompaniment to soups and salads, making it versatile for everyday meals.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups water lukewarm (110 °F)
Instructions
- The night before baking the bread, combine the flour, salt, and dry yeast. Then, add the water and mix until the dough comes together. Cover with plastic wrap and let it sit for 12-24 hours at room temperature.
- When the dough is wet and bubbly, you are ready for the next step. Generously flour your hands and a baking sheet. Remove the dough (if it sticks, flour your hands more) and form it into a round shape.
- Place the dough on the baking sheet and sprinkle a generous amount of flour on top. Cover with a towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for about an hour.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F, and make sure there are two racks in the oven. Pour two cups of water into a deep dish or rimmed baking sheet and place it on the lower rack. Place the baking sheet with dough on the upper rack. Remove the water from the oven after 10 minutes.
- Continue baking the bread for another 30 minutes or until it is golden brown and crispy on top!
