No Yeast Bread Recipe

No Yeast Bread uses self-rising flour combined with milk and optional brown sugar to create a simple quick bread without yeast. The dough is shaped into a disc, scored, and baked until the crust sounds hollow when tapped, producing a golden loaf with a tender crumb. This straightforward recipe is useful when yeast is unavailable or rapid bread baking is desired.

Description

This No Yeast Bread Recipe starts with self-rising flour mixed optionally with brown sugar. Whole milk is added to hydrate the flour and form a dough. The ingredients are mixed just until wet and combined to avoid overworking, which keeps the bread tender.

The dough is shaped into a round disc about 3 inches high and scored with an “X” on top to help it expand evenly in the oven. It’s baked uncovered at 375°F for 30 to 35 minutes until the crust is golden and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped, indicating doneness.

The bread cools before slicing to set its texture. The result is a simple, tender quick bread without the wait time required for yeast rising. This loaf can accompany meals as a mild-flavored bread option.

The recipe notes suggest using whole milk, or skim milk with added melted butter. Water can be substituted for milk if combined with butter or oil for moisture. For a richer crust, brushing the hot bread with melted butter and a sprinkle of coarse sea salt is recommended right after baking.
