Nutella Turnovers

Nutella Turnovers are made using puff pastry filled with Nutella spread, folded into sealed triangles, and baked until golden and crispy. The turnovers provide flaky, buttery layers enclosing the rich chocolate-hazelnut filling. A light milk wash on the surface helps achieve an even golden color. This pastry makes a convenient, sweet treat that can be served warm.

Description

This recipe begins by defrosting a sheet of puff pastry to make it pliable. The sheet is rolled flat to evening thickness and cut into six squares. Each square is spread with two tablespoons of Nutella in a triangular shape on one half. Edges are moistened with milk to aid sealing, then the pastry is folded over and edges crimped with a fork to prevent filling leakage. The tops are brushed with remaining milk for browning. The turnovers are baked in a preheated 350°F oven for about 25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed. The result is a crisp, flaky pastry with melted Nutella inside.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 heet puff pastry such as Pepperidge Farm, frozen
  • 12 tbsp Nutella 6 oz
  • 1 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Defrost the puff pastry sheet for 45 minutes. Roll it flat to get rid of the folds and to even out the thickness. I did it on a Silpat mat to make it easier. Using a pizza cutter, divide the pastry into 6.
  2. Spread 2 tbsps of Nutella in a triangular shape onto one half of each pastry square.
  3. Using clean fingertips or a brush, wet the edges of each square with milk. Fold over the pastry, seal it gently with your finger and crimp the edges with a fork.
  4. Brush the tops of each turnover with the leftover milk. Lift the Silpat mat onto a baking sheet and put in a preheated 350 degrees F. oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
