Instructions

  1. Preheat over to 350°F. Prepare two baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper.
  2. Remove the store bought frozen puff pastry sheet from the freezer and allow to thaw at room temperature for a bout 15 minutes or until fully thawed. Once thawed unroll 1 sheet of pastry on a cutting board.
  3. Evenly spread the Nutella over the sheet of pastry.
  4. Unroll the second sheet of thawed puff pastry and place it directly on top of the sheet with the Nutella. Gently press the two sheets together to stick them together.
  5. Cut the puff pastry into 12 even strips. Tip: use a pizza cutter to mark the center of the pastry, then mark each half in the center, and continue marking the cut’s to be made until you have 12 even strips.
  6. Pick up a strip and carefully twist multiple times until a spiral is formed. Then roll the twisted pastry into a circle shape. Place onto the packing sheet and twist the end of the strip under the circle pastry.
  7. In a small bowl beat the egg. Once evenly beaten, use a brush to brush the egg over each pastry.
  8. Repeat until all the pastries are shaped and brushed with egg.
  9. Place the sheet pan in the oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
  10. Once baked, remove the sheet pan from the oven and carefully use a spatula to transfer the baked pastries to a cooling rack.
  11. Serve warm or at room temperature and enjoy. Optional: garnish the pastries with a dusting of icing sugar before serving.

Notes

  • Puff Pastry Note - if you cannot find rolled puff pastry, you can use a pack of unrolled puff pastry. Allow the pastry to thaw, cut the brick in half and then roll into 2 evenly sized square  pieces.
  • Storage - store in an air tight container or Ziploc bag at room temperature for 4-5 days.
  • Make Ahead - follow the recipe as usual and store the cooled baked pastries in an air tight container or Ziploc bag at room temperature for 4-5 days. The pastries will not be as crispy but you can reheat them in the oven at 350°F for 5 minutes to get them crispy again.
  • Freezing - allow the pastries to fully cool at room temperature and then transfer to a freezer safe container or Ziploc bag. Freeze for up to 3 months. Tip: if you need to stack the pastries in a container, place a piece of parchment paper between each pastry to prevent sticking. If using a freezer safe Ziploc bag you can first wrap each pastries in plastic wrap to prevent sticking. They are also a great grab and go treat from the freezer!
