Oat Flour Brownies
Description
This recipe for Oat Flour Brownies uses oat flour as the grain component, blended with unsweetened cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. The wet ingredients include eggs, avocado oil, maple syrup, unsweetened applesauce, and vanilla extract. Combining these gently results in a batter that bakes into a dense, moist brownie with chocolate chips incorporated for added texture and richness.
The brownies are baked in an 8x8-inch pan until just set and a toothpick comes out clean, then cooled before cutting to enhance texture and avoid burning mouths on hot brownies. The crumb is soft but holds together well, making them easy to slice.
These brownies are suited for an indulgent snack or dessert, especially for those looking for alternatives to wheat flour. Their chocolate flavor is true and pairs well with coffee or milk.
If making oat flour at home, about 1¼ cups of rolled oats blended results in 1 cup of oat flour needed for this recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 cup oat flour
- ½ cup cocoa powder unsweetened
- ½ teaspoon salt sea salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 3 large egg
- ½ cup avocado oil
- ½ cup maple syrup
- ½ cup applesauce unsweetened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¾ cup chocolate chips plus more for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan or line with parchment.
- In a medium mixing bowl combine oat flour, cocoa powder, sea salt and baking powder.
- In a large mixing bowl whisk together eggs, avocado oil, maple syrup, applesauce and vanilla extract.
- Pour dry ingredients into wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips.
- Transfer mixture to the prepared pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until brownies are set in the center and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let brownies cool completely (trust me, they test better cool, plus you won’t burn your mouth). Cut into squares and enjoy!
Notes
- To make oat flour at home, blend 1¼ cups rolled oats until fine to yield 1 cup oat flour needed.
