Oat Milk Matcha Latte

This Oat Milk Matcha Latte combines finely sifted matcha green tea powder with creamy oat milk and a touch of maple syrup for natural sweetness. It can be prepared using various methods, including shaking in a mason jar, whisking traditionally, blending, or frothing electrically, to achieve a smooth, frothy texture. The recipe allows for adjustment of matcha intensity and sweetness based on personal taste. This latte is a comforting, plant-based alternative for matcha lovers seeking a latte with a mild, earthy flavor balanced by the smoothness of oat milk.

Description

The Oat Milk Matcha Latte recipe features matcha powder dissolved into oat milk, sweetened lightly with maple syrup or comparable substitutes like honey. The matcha amount ranges from half to two teaspoons, allowing customization of strength and color intensity. Multiple preparation methods—shaking in a jar, whisking with traditional tools, blending, or using an electric frother—enable different textures and froth levels.

The flavor profile emphasizes the natural earthiness and subtle bitterness of ceremonial grade matcha softened by the creamy, slightly sweet oat milk. Maple syrup adds a mellow sweetness without overpowering the tea notes. Serving chilled or warm, the latte offers a smooth mouthfeel with a hint of foam from frothing or shaking.

Store matcha powder in airtight, opaque containers in cool conditions to preserve freshness and prevent oxidation. Leftover oat milk lattes should be refrigerated in sealed containers and shaken or whisked before drinking as matcha settles naturally. Variations include adding flavors such as vanilla or pandan to enhance the latte according to preference.

Ingredients

Servings
  • ½-2 teaspoons matcha green tea powder or to taste. You will need to use more matcha (i.e. 2 teaspoons) if you want a greener drink. Use the best quality (ceremonial) you can find/ afford. See post on how to store after opening.
  • 1 Cup oat milk Shake before pouring to prevent separation.
  • ½-1 Tablespoon maple syrup or to taste. Substitutes: honey (if not vegan), sugar, 1 of these ways to sweeten lattes without sugar or 1 of these maple syrup alternatives.

Instructions

Method 1: Mason Jar Method

  1. Shake the oat milk then pour into the Mason Jar.
  2. Scoop in the matcha powder (If you add the matcha first, it'll stick to the walls of the container.)
  3. Close securely then shake vigorously till no lumps remain. Your oat milk latte will froth up nicely!
  4. Open carefully to prevent dripping (especially around the cap), sweeten to taste and enjoy!

Method 2: Traditional Matcha Whisk, Regular Whisk or Fork

  1. Add the sifted matcha powder and 1 Tablespoon of hot water to a deep and wide bowl. (Water no hotter than 160°F-170°F (70°C-80°C))
  2. Whisk till no clumps can be seen. Transfer to your drinking cup.
  3. Shake the oat milk then pour into the bloomed matcha.
  4. Sweeten to taste. Enjoy!

Method 3: Blender

  1. Add the shaken oat milk, matcha and sweetener to the blender. Blend till frothy. Enjoy the foam!

Method 4: Electric milk frother

  1. Shake the oat milk. Add the milk, matcha and sweetener to the frother.
  2. Froth till the powder is totally "melted" into the liquid. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Store matcha powder in a dark, airtight container in the refrigerator to maintain flavor and prevent oxidation.
  • Shake or whisk leftover oat milk latte before drinking as matcha tends to settle at the bottom.
  • Adjust matcha powder amount between ½ and 2 teaspoons depending on desired strength and color.
  • Maple syrup can be substituted with honey or other sweeteners according to dietary preference.
