Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
Description
These cookies start by creaming butter with both brown and granulated sugars until light and fluffy. An egg and vanilla extract are beaten in for moisture and flavor. Dry ingredients—flour, baking soda, salt—are added next, followed by old-fashioned oats and semi-sweet chocolate chips folded in gently to preserve the cookie’s texture.
Arranged on baking sheets in two-tablespoon scoops, the dough bakes for 8 to 9 minutes at 350°F. This quick bake time yields cookies with a soft, chewy center and slightly crisp edges. Using old-fashioned oats instead of quick oats creates a more substantial texture that complements the chocolate chips well. These cookies make a simple, nostalgic dessert or snack.
