Oatmeal Fingers
Description
Oatmeal Fingers involve mashing banana (or a suitable substitute), then combining it with quick oats and unsweetened almond milk. This mixture is evenly pressed into a microwave-safe container and cooked on high for two minutes to create a soft, cohesive oatmeal base.
The cooking method produces tender, moist oatmeal pieces that can be cut into strips once partially cooled. The texture is mild and smooth, suitable for young children starting on solid foods.
This simple preparation is convenient for serving as a finger food snack and can accommodate ingredient substitutions based on dietary needs or availability. Cooling before serving allows safer handling and easier removal from the container.
Ingredients
- ⅓ cup quick oats gluten-free if needed
- ⅓ cup almond milk unsweetened
- ½ ripe banana mashed or ¼ cup applesauce or ¼ cup mashed sweet potato
Instructions
- If using banana, mash the banana in a bowl or on a plate.
- Add oats, milk and mashed banana to a small microwave safe baking dish. I used a rectangular glass meal prep container.
- Stir to combine and then press the mixture evenly into the dish.
- Cook on high in the microwave for 2 minutes. Carefully remove from the microwave, cut into four strips and let cool for 5 minutes.
- Use a spatula to remove the oats from the container, let cool completely and serve to baby.
