Old Fashioned Salmon Patties
Description
Old Fashioned Salmon Patties use cooked, flaked salmon mixed with panko bread crumbs, egg, mayonnaise, lemon juice, and seasonings including Old Bay, dill, and onion powder. The mixture is shaped into uniform patties and pan-fried in peanut oil at medium heat. This cooking method crisps the outside in about two minutes per side while keeping the interior moist and tender. The flavor combines the richness of salmon with the bright acidity from lemon and a mild herbaceous note from dill.
The patties are best served fresh and can be garnished with parsley or sliced green onions to add freshness and color. They work well as a main dish or in sandwiches. Cooking carefully without crowding the pan and flipping only once preserves their shape and texture.
Storing leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator keeps them for up to three days, and reheating can be done in the microwave or air fryer. The patties also freeze well when placed single-layered and thawed in the fridge before cooking or reheating.
Ingredients
- 2 cups salmon flaked, cooked
- ½ cup panko bread crumbs
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
- 1 teaspoon dill dried
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 2 tablespoon peanut oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine all ingredients except the oil.
- Roll ¼ cup portions into balls, then flatten into disks.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Place the salmon patties in the hot pan, keeping plenty of space between them.
- Without moving the patties, cook them for 2 minutes.
- Carefully flip the patties and cook the other side for 2 minutes.
- Transfer them to a plate. Garnish with parsley or sliced green onions, and serve.
Notes
- If patties fall apart, adding an extra tablespoon of mayonnaise can help bind the mixture.
- Use a measuring scoop to ensure patties are uniform in size for even cooking.
- Heat the oil until hot enough that it sizzles when water is added before frying patties.
- Avoid crowding the pan to allow patties to crisp properly and flip easily.
- Flip patties only once and avoid moving them during cooking to maintain shape.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days and reheat in microwave or air fryer.
- Freeze cooled patties laid out in a single layer in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to three months; defrost overnight in the refrigerator.
