One Pot Spaghetti with Meat Sauce
Description
One Pot Spaghetti with Meat Sauce starts by seasoning ground beef with salt and pepper, then browning it together with diced onion and minced garlic in olive oil. Crushed tomatoes and broth are added to create the sauce, into which dry spaghetti is submerged and cooked covered. The spaghetti slowly softens as it absorbs the savory flavors of the beef and tomato base, while occasional stirring prevents sticking.
The dish yields a rich meat sauce coating tender spaghetti, balanced by fresh chopped parsley added near the end for a subtle herbal brightness. This approach consolidates cooking steps, boiling noodles in the sauce itself to intensify flavor integration.
It can be garnished with grated Parmesan cheese and served as a satisfying main course. The recipe allows adjustments in broth quantity to achieve preferred pasta doneness and consistency.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (500g) ground beef
- salt
- black pepper ground
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 cup onion diced
- 4 cloves garlic minced
- 28 oz (800g) crushed tomatoes
- 2 1/3 cups chicken broth or beef broth
- 8 oz (230g) spaghetti
- 1 tablespoon parsley chopped
- salt to taste
Instructions
- Season the ground beef with salt and ground black pepper, then set aside.
- Heat a pan, skillet, or pot over medium heat and add the olive oil. Sauté the onion and garlic until aromatic and the onion becomes soft. Add the ground beef, stirring continuously with a wooden spatula to break up any lumps.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, broth, spaghetti, and chopped parsley. Press the spaghetti down so that it is covered by the sauce.
- Cover the pan, skillet, or pot and cook for 14 minutes. At the 10-minute mark, uncover the lid and use the spatula to stir the spaghetti, ensuring they don’t stick to the bottom. Add salt to taste.
- "Check the doneness of the spaghetti after 14 minutes. If it's still not cooked, add more broth and cook for a few more minutes. I prefer to cook my spaghetti al dente, as it will continue to cook after you remove it from the heat. Serve the spaghetti and meat sauce with grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
Notes
- Adapted from Skinny Taste for a streamlined one-pot meal.
- Check pasta doneness after initial cooking time; add broth and extra minutes if needed for al dente texture.
- Grated Parmesan is an optional finishing touch to enhance richness.
