Ingredients
- 12 large marshmallows regular size
- 1 bag vibrant green candy melts
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- 4 chocolate cake donuts or frosted in a pinch
- ½ cup black melting chocolate or candy melts
- 12 small gummy worms
Instructions
- Cut eight marshmallows in half. To make the slightly tilted head, cut each of the remaining four marshmallows at a twenty-degree angle, cutting off about the top third of each marshmallow to create four heads.
- Melt the green candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Melt the chocolate in the microwave in 30-second increments stirring in between each one until it is fully melted. Once they are melted, stir in one teaspoon of coconut oil.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or skip the baking sheet and just put the parchment paper on the counter.
- Dip the uncut portion of a halved marshmallow into the melted chocolate. Attach it to the top right side of the donut. Point the marshmallow up on the left side.
- Dip another halved marshmallow on the uncut side of the marshmallow into the chocolate and place in on the upper left portion of the donut. The point should face to the left side again.
- Dip another halved marshmallow into the melted chocolate. make sure to dip the cut side of the marshmallow then stick it onto the bottom right of the donut with the point on the right side.
- Repeat the previous step but attach the marshmallow to the bottom left of the donut facing the point to the left.
- Using the last marshmallow (the one that has the 20 degree angle cut), dip the uncut side of the marshmallow into the melted chocolate and place it onto the top of the donut in the middle.
- Place the whole donut onto the parchment paper and let the chocolate completely set before moving on.
- Place your donut and marshmallows into the bowl, and using a fork, dip the Oogie Boogie into the chocolate. Or lay it in the bowl and pour the melted chocolate over the donut and marshmallows. Either way, make sure the donuts and marshmallows are completely covered in green chocolate.
- Carefully remove Oogie Boogie from the melting chocolate and lay the fully coated Oogie Boogie back onto the parchment paper and let it dry completely, typically about 15 minutes.
- While the chocolate is setting on the donut and marshmallows, melt the black melting chocolate in a small microwave-safe bowl. Again, melt in short 30-second increments while stirring in between each one until the chocolate is fully melted.
- Place the melted black chocolate into a piping bag, or use a Ziploc bag with a small hole cut in the corner of the bag.
- Pipe black stitches of chocolate onto Oogie Boogie. Then pipe two triangle eyes and a mouth that looks like stitches.
- For the final touch, add three mini gummy worms to the center of the donut.
Notes
- Microwave gummy worms for five seconds to get them to be more moldable if you want them to be shaped like they are in my photos. Or you can just place them right on top of the donuts.
- Make mini Oogie Boogie donuts by using mini marshmallows and homemade donuts like these or packaged powdered donuts.
- If you live somewhere hot, place them in the fridge to set the chocolate when needed.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. After that, they will start to get stale.
- Do not freeze because the donuts inside will get soggy when thawing.
- Ingredient Notes:
- Donuts - Chocolate cake donuts are best but if you can't find those any type of cake donut is second best. If you can't still find those, chocolate frosted donuts work - they just don't work quite as well.
- Gummy worms - mini gummy worms are great!
- Candy melts - you can use almond bark or white melting wafers dyed green instead of the candy melts as well.
