Description
This sandwich involves heating gravy in a skillet until bubbling, then gently warming turkey slices in the gravy. The bread is toasted separately for added crunch. After optional additional ingredients are added to the bread, the turkey is spooned on, and everything is topped with the warm gravy. The sandwich serves well as a quick meal to repurpose leftover turkey or deli meat, and any bread can work according to availability. Toasting adds texture but is optional. Variations with leftover holiday sides can add interest and flavor.
Gravy can be homemade or store-bought, and both brown and white gravies are appropriate. This method offers flexibility to adapt to what you have on hand without sacrificing taste or satisfaction.
Ingredients
- ½ cup gravy - see note 1
- 6 lices turkey meat - see note 2
- 2 lices bread - see note 3
Instructions
- Pour the gravy into a skillet and heat it until it is bubbling.½ cup gravy
- Reduce the heat to low and add the turkey. Heat gently until the meat is hot.6 slices turkey meat
- Toast the bread. You can do this in the oven, under the broiler, or in an electric toaster or toaster oven. This step is optional, but I like the crunch it gives.2 slices bread
- Add any additional ingredients (see note 4) to the bread.
- Spoon on the turkey and then pour over the gravy.
Notes
- Leftover or homemade gravy can be used; both brown and white gravies work well.
- Use any bread you have on hand, including rolls or leftover bread.
- Leftover turkey of any form—sliced, shredded, or chunked—can be used.
- Additional leftovers can be warmed and layered on the toast before turkey and gravy to enhance the sandwich.
