Orange Glazed Pork Chops

Orange Glazed Pork Chops are thick boneless pork loin chops seared and baked with a bright, syrupy sauce made from fresh orange juice, marmalade, garlic, soy sauce, and honey. The dish features a balance of citrus sweetness and savory depth, complemented by rosemary and red onion for added aroma and flavor. This recipe produces tender, juicy chops with a glossy orange glaze perfect for serving alongside rice.

Description

This recipe for Orange Glazed Pork Chops uses boneless, at least 1-inch thick pork loin chops seasoned simply with salt and pepper before searing to create a browned crust. The glaze is prepared in a saucepan from fresh orange juice, orange marmalade, minced garlic, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and honey, simmered until thick and syrupy. If needed, a cornstarch slurry is added to achieve a proper glaze consistency.

The pork chops are seared in an ovenproof skillet, then baked with rosemary sprigs and wedges of red onion added for infusion of flavor. After baking, the chops are basted with the orange glaze and rested to retain juiciness. The final result is tender meat glazed in a tangy, sweet, and slightly savory orange sauce with aromatic herbs and caramelized onions.

Serve the glazed pork chops with rice or another side that will soak up the flavorful orange sauce. This dish combines bright citrus notes with savory depth, making it suitable for a flavorful dinner centerpiece that balances sweet and savory elements in the glaze.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 4 pork loin chops at least 1 inch thick, boneless
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 prigs rosemary fresh
  • 1 red onion cut into 1/2-inch wedges, medium

Orange sauce:

  • 2/3 cup orange juice fresh
  • 2 tablespoons orange marmalade
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup

Slurry:

  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons orange juice or water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine the sauce ingredients, stir and bring to a boil, immediately reduce heat to a simmer, and cook until syrupy, about 10-15 minutes.
  3. If the sauce is too thin, mix the orange juice with the cornstarch to create a slurry. Add the mixture to the saucepan, stir, and simmer for a few more minutes.
  4. Heat a large ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat, once hot, and oil. Season the pork chops with salt and pepper on both sides. Sear for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until browned.
  5. Add the rosemary and onion to the pan, then pour the orange sauce over the pork.
  6. Bake for 10 minutes in the preheated oven or until a thermometer inserted in the center of the pork chops registers 135-140 degrees.
  7. Remove the pan from the oven, baste the meat with the sauce, and let it rest for 10 minutes before serving. Serve with rice.
