Orange Glazed Salmon

Orange Glazed Salmon features pan-seared salmon filets coated with a sweet and tangy glaze made from fresh orange juice, honey, tamari, and thyme. The glaze thickens over heat with arrowroot slurry, adding a glossy finish to the crisp salmon with a balance of citrus and savory notes.

Description

This Orange Glazed Salmon recipe starts with seasoning salmon filets, then pan-searing them in avocado oil until both sides develop a crisp exterior. The pan is then used to create a glaze by sautéing garlic and combining orange juice, honey, tamari soy sauce, thyme, and arrowroot slurry to thicken.

The glaze imparts a citrus sweetness balanced by umami from tamari and aromatic thyme, coating the salmon with a shiny, flavorful sauce. Cooking salmon to medium doneness preserves its moist texture and flaky interior, while the glaze enhances the overall flavor profile.

Serve the salmon with the orange glaze spooned on top for a simple yet vibrant main dish. The recipe's use of arrowroot thickens the glaze quickly without overpowering the salmon's natural taste.

Using a well-seasoned cast iron pan helps prevent sticking and browning evenly. The glaze will thicken further as it cools, allowing for a richer coating.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil
  • 4 (6-ounce) salmon Alaskan Sockeye or Coho, filets
  • 1 orange juiced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons tamari
  • 1 teaspoon thyme finely chopped
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon arrowroot flour
  • 1 teaspoon water

Instructions

  1. Pat salmon dry with a paper towel, then season with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat the avocado oil in a pan on medium high heat. Add salmon and cook for 3-4 minutes each side.
  3. While the salmon is cooking, make an arrowroot slurry by stirring together the arrowroot powder and water. Set aside.
  4. Once the salmon is cooked, transfer to a plate.
  5. Turn the heat down to medium-low and sauté the minced garlic in the pan for 30 seconds. Add the orange juice, honey, tamari, thyme and arrowroot slurry. Whisk the ingredients together for 1-2 minutes or until slightly thickened.
  6. Add the salmon back to pan and spoon glaze over salmon before serving.

Notes

  • Use a seasoned cast iron pan to prevent salmon from sticking and to achieve even searing.
  • The orange glaze thickens further off heat; allow it to cool slightly before serving.
