Orange Grilled Salmon

Orange Grilled Salmon uses fresh oranges and brown sugar to create a sweet, citrus glaze over a large salmon fillet. The fish is cooked in foil on the grill until tender and flaky, absorbing the bright, caramelized orange flavor. This method locks in moisture, resulting in a rich, juicy texture balanced by the sweetness of brown sugar and salt.

Description

Orange Grilled Salmon features a large salmon fillet seasoned with freshly squeezed orange juice or orange juice concentrate, brown sugar, and kosher salt. Orange slices are layered on top before sealing the fish in aluminum foil for grilling. The foil-covered salmon cooks on medium heat, allowing the juices and flavors to mingle and steam the fish gently until it reaches a tender, flaking doneness at about 120°F internal temperature.

The combination of orange's citrus brightness with brown sugar creates a sweet and savory balance that enhances the natural richness of the salmon without overpowering it. Cooking in foil keeps the fish moist and infused with the orange aroma, while the brown sugar caramelizes slightly for added depth.

This preparation works well as a main course for a casual grilled meal and pairs nicely with simple sides such as grilled vegetables or a fresh salad. The foil method also simplifies cleanup and grilling technique.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 salmon large fillet (Costco, Sam's Club)
  • 2 orange
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Place salmon skin side down (flesh side up) on a large piece of aluminum foil. Squeeze one orange over the top (if your oranges aren't very sweet, substitute this for 3/4 cup "Simply Orange" orange juice and brush it over the top).
  2. Sprinkle generously with the brown sugar and salt. Cut the second orange into slices and layer over the top.
  3. Completely cover with the aluminum foil, fold and seal, then grill on medium heat with the grill lid closed until cooked through (120-degrees F) and flakes easily.
