Orangeade Recipe

This Orangeade Recipe blends freshly squeezed orange and lemon juice with a homemade simple syrup flavored with vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Served with club soda, it yields a refreshing, lightly sweetened citrus beverage with subtle vanilla warmth and fizzy bubbles. Using ripe, juicy oranges ensures the best flavor.

Description

The Orangeade begins by making a simple syrup of granulated sugar and water heated until the sugar dissolves, then infused with vanilla extract and salt to round out the sweetness and add complexity. Freshly squeezed orange juice from ripe oranges and lemon juice are combined with the syrup in a pitcher.

Serving immediately with club soda adds effervescence, creating a sparkling citrus drink reminiscent of classic soda fountain beverages. If preparing ahead, water can be added instead of club soda to prevent loss of fizz.

This homemade orangeade balances sweet, tart, and aromatic vanilla notes, highlighting fresh orange and lemon flavors. Using a mix of orange varieties such as Cara Cara and Navel can improve flavor depth. The drink is suitable for refreshment on warm days or as a complement to meals.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 1/2 cups orange juice from 6-8 juicy oranges, fresh squeezed
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice fresh squeezed
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch salt
  • 5 cups club soda or water

Instructions

  1. Place 1 1/2 cups sugar and 1 1/2 cups water in a small sauce pot. Heat and stir until the sugar has dissolved. (This can also be done in the microwave.) Stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
  2. Squeeze 2 1/2 cups of orange juice and 1/2 cup lemon juice into a large pitcher. Pour the sugar syrup into the pitcher. If making ahead, add 5 additional cups of water. Stir and refrigerate.
  3. If serving right away, pour 5 cups club soda to the pitcher instead of tap water. This creates a bubbly soda fountain quality!

Notes

  • Use sweet, juicy oranges such as a combination of Cara Cara and Navel oranges for best flavor.
