Oreo Balls (Oreo Truffles)
Description
This recipe starts by processing Oreo cookies with cream cheese until the mixture is smooth and well combined. The mixture is formed into approximately 48 one-inch balls, placed on a parchment-lined tray, and chilled in the freezer to firm. Next, balls are dipped individually into melted semisweet chocolate, ensuring an even coating. Excess chocolate is removed by scraping the fork on the bowl edge before placing back on parchment to set. White chocolate is melted separately, then piped in a crisscross pattern over the coated balls for decoration.
The resulting Oreo balls have a firm chocolate shell with a creamy, crumbly interior that blends the sweetness of Oreos with tangy cream cheese. The combination creates a texture contrast and layered chocolate flavor that is familiar yet indulgent. The simple steps make it accessible for home bakers, and the freezing step aids in handling and final set.
These treats work well as dessert bites at gatherings, snacks with coffee or tea, or homemade gifts. The small size and ready-to-eat nature mean they can be served immediately after hardening. The chocolate decoration adds visual appeal and additional sweetness.
Ingredients
- 36 Oreo cookies
- 8 ounces cream cheese
- 16 ounces semisweet chocolate melting wafers
- 4 ounces white chocolate melting wafers
Instructions
- Add the Oreos and cream cheese to a food processor and process until smooth then roll the mixture into 48 1 inch balls and place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, freezing for 20 minutes.
- Melt the semisweet chocolate and dip each ball in it with a fork scraping the bottom before putting it back on the parchment paper.
- Melt the white chocolate and put it in a small ziplock bag with the end snipped off and pipe the white chocolate on in a criss cross pattern before letting it harden completely.
Notes
- Use a food processor to achieve a smooth crumb mixture for easy rolling.
