Original Chex Mix Recipe

The Original Chex Mix blends three types of Chex cereals with nuts and pretzels coated in a buttery seasoning sauce. Baked at low heat to develop a slightly toasted, savory snack mix with balanced savory and salty flavors, this classic party snack provides a satisfying crunch and a mix of textures.

Description

This Original Chex Mix recipe uses a combination of corn, rice, and wheat Chex cereals, mixed with bite-sized pretzels and mixed nuts. These are coated with a melted butter mixture seasoned with Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, garlic salt with parsley, and onion powder. Baking the mixture at 250°F for an hour allows the flavors to meld and the mix to develop a toasted, crisp texture.

Stirring the mix every 15 minutes ensures even coating and baking. Cooling on paper towels allows excess moisture or grease to be absorbed, resulting in a dry, crunchy snack. The mix can then be stored in an airtight container for convenient snacking. This recipe is iconic for its flavorful, handheld, and crunchy snack qualities.
