Oven Asparagus Recipe

Oven-roasted asparagus seasoned with olive oil, lemon juice, garlic salt, salt, and fresh cracked black pepper. Roasting at 400°F softens the stalks and develops lightly browned crunchy tips. This simple preparation enhances the natural flavor and texture, making the asparagus a well-seasoned side dish that pairs with many meals.

Description

The Oven Asparagus Recipe focuses on fresh asparagus trimmed of woody ends, then tossed with extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice, garlic salt (or garlic powder), sea or Celtic salt, and freshly cracked black pepper for seasoning. The use of lemon juice adds a subtle citrus brightness that complements the earthy asparagus flavor.

Roasting occurs in a moderate oven temperature of 400°F, typically for around 15 minutes. Monitoring after about 10 minutes ensures the asparagus develops lightly browned edges and softens without overcooking. The result is a texture with tender stalks and crunchy browned tips, creating a pleasing contrast in each bite.

This straightforward cooking method allows the natural quality of the asparagus to shine through, making it a versatile vegetable side that goes well alongside proteins, grains, or salads. Serving immediately after roasting preserves the desirable texture and warmth for the best experience.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 asparagus woody ends trimmed off, bunch
  • 2 tbsp olive oil extra virgin
  • 2 tsp garlic salt or garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp salt celtic (skip if using garlic salt, sea salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper fresh cracked

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Trim asparagus to remove tough, woody ends - discard ends.
  3. On a baking sheet (line with aluminum foil or parchment paper for easy cleanup), lay down asparagus.
  4. Drizzle asparagus with olive oil and lemon juice, mix around with hands to coat evenly.
  5. Generously season with salt and pepper.
  6. Turn oven to 400 degrees.
  7. Place asparagus in oven and roast at 400 for 15 minutes - checking at around 10 minutes to see if tips have started to brown slightly and asparagus has softened a bit.
  8. Cook until asparagus is soft and has crunchy browned bits, about 15 minutes total (this is very dependent on your oven and the thickness of the asparagus stalks - watch it to be sure it doesn't overcook.)
  9. When asparagus is done, serve immediately.
