Oven Baked Potatoes

Oven Baked Potatoes yield tender, fluffy interiors with crisp, seasoned skins achieved by brushing them with olive oil and kosher salt before high-temperature baking. Choosing russet potatoes and pricking them allows steam to escape, minimizing bursting. This straightforward method produces classic baked potatoes that can be served with various toppings, making a versatile side or main dish.

Description

Oven Baked Potatoes begin with scrubbing and pricking whole russet potatoes, then coating them in olive oil and kosher salt to enhance the skin's texture and flavor. Baking at 425°F crisps the skin while thoroughly cooking the potato interior into a soft, fluffy texture. Cooking times vary based on potato size but generally last between 45 and 60 minutes.

The potatoes are allowed to rest briefly after baking before being cut open and fluffed internally. Common toppings like butter, sour cream, cheese, and bacon can be added to taste, turning these potatoes into a customizable dish for various meals.

For ease of cleanup, lining the baking sheet with foil and spraying cooking spray is recommended. Selecting potatoes of similar size ensures even cooking, and baking time may require adjustment if using larger or smaller potatoes.
