Oven Baked Sweet Potato Fries

Oven Baked Sweet Potato Fries are sliced sweet potatoes tossed in olive oil and a blend of spices including paprika, cumin, and chili powder. Baked at high heat until tender with a soft texture, they are served warm with a creamy, tangy mayonnaise-ketchup sauce seasoned with lime and spices. The fries offer a mildly spiced, sweet, and savory side dish.

Description

This recipe calls for cutting sweet potatoes into quarter-inch strips for even cooking. The fries are coated lightly in olive oil and a spice blend featuring paprika, onion powder, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, pepper, salt, and sugar. They bake at 450 degrees Fahrenheit for about 20 minutes, turning halfway through to ensure even cooking.

The resulting fries are soft with subtle crispness, flavored with a warm spice profile. The accompanying sauce blends mayonnaise and ketchup with lime juice and various seasonings, adding a bright and creamy contrast to the sweet potatoes.

The fries are best served warm, ideal as a side for casual meals.

For those preferring crispier fries, extending the baking time by 5-10 minutes per side is recommended.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 large sweet potato
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon chili powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cumin
  • teaspoon garlic powder
  • teaspoon pepper
  • ½ teaspoon sugar

Sauce

  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • ½ teaspoon lime juice
  • teaspoon onion powder
  • teaspoon garlic powder
  • teaspoon salt
  • teaspoon pepper
  • teaspoon celery salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Wash and dry the sweet potatoes and cut off the ends. Chop the potatoes in half lengthwise. Cut into 1/4 inch strips (you may cut larger pieces, but the cook time will increase.)
  2. Place cut potatoes in a large bowl  and toss with just enough olive oil to coat completely.
  3. In a small bowl, mix all seasonings together. Sprinkle on potatoes and toss well to coat. Spread potatoes out on a single layer baking sheet, spreading out evenly. Bake for 10 minutes, remove from oven and turn potatoes over. Bake 10 additional minutes.*
  4. While fries are baking, mix together ingredients for the sauce. When fries are done, remove from oven, sprinkle with coarse sea salt and serve warm.

Notes

  • For crispier fries, extend baking time by 5 to 10 minutes on each side.
