Oven Roasted Maple Turkey Breast
Description
Turkey breast is rinsed and patted dry before being marinated overnight in a blend of olive oil, maple syrup or honey, fresh lemon juice, minced garlic, chili flakes, sea salt, and freshly ground black pepper. This marinade infuses the turkey with a balance of sweetness, acidity, and mild heat. After marinating, the turkey breast is brought to near room temperature and oven-roasted at 375°F until the internal temperature reaches 170°F and juices run clear.
The roasting method delivers a succulent turkey breast with a lightly caramelized exterior from the maple syrup and tender, juicy meat inside. The garlic and chili flakes provide a subtle warmth, while the lemon brightens the overall flavor.
Allowing the turkey to rest covered before slicing helps retain juices. This dish can serve as a main course suitable for meals where a sweet-savory protein is desired. The marinade’s ingredients and method ensure the turkey is well-seasoned and moist.
If using frozen turkey breast, proper thawing is crucial. Avoid rinsing poultry to prevent contamination, following USDA guidelines. Nutritional estimates may vary depending on ingredient brands used.
Ingredients
- 1 turkey breast halved, skin removed, boneless; 2-4 lbs
For the marinade
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 2 Tbsp maple syrup or honey
- 3 Tbsp lemon juice fresh
- 4 garlic minced, cloves
- 2 Tsp chili flakes
- 2 Tsp salt sea salt
- 1 Tsp black pepper freshly ground
Instructions
- Rinse the turkey breast and pat dry. (you may skip rinsing and just pat dry)
- In a small bowl combine all marinade ingredients.
- Place the turkey breast into a gallon ziplock together with the marinade, and mix well through the bag. For best results refrigerate overnight to marinate.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Transfer the turkey breast to an ovenproof dish or roasting tray and keep it on the counter for about 20 minutes, to get close to room temp.
- Place it in the preheated oven and roast until the juices run clear when pierced with a fork and a thermometer inserted into the thickest part of turkey registers 170°F, about 60minutes.
- Allow it to rest, covered with foil, for 10 minutes before carving.
Notes
- Marinate the turkey breast overnight for best flavor and moisture retention.
- Thaw frozen turkey breast in the refrigerator at least 24 hours before cooking.
- Rinsing poultry is optional but not recommended by the FDA to prevent cross-contamination.
- Let the cooked turkey rest covered with foil for 10 minutes before carving to lock in juices.
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 170°F for safe consumption.
