Oven Roasted Turkey Breast
Description
This recipe centers on roasting a whole turkey breast seasoned with a mixture of orange zest, juice, brown sugar, honey, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. The turkey is rubbed with this mixture, then roasted low and slow at 325°F for about 1.5 hours, with the foil removed near the end to brown the skin. The internal temperature should reach 165°F for safe doneness.
The included Honey Orange Sauce, which is optional, combines fragrant garlic, fresh ginger, red pepper flakes, soy sauce, brown sugar, honey or maple syrup, orange juice and zest, water, and cornstarch to create a glaze or dipping sauce with balanced sweet, savory, and spicy notes. The turkey breast emerges tender with a subtle citrus-sweet flavor from the marinade, complemented by the sauce.
This turkey breast is suitable to slice and serve with your choice of side dishes, offering a flavorful alternative to whole roasted turkey. The method emphasizes a moist interior and nicely browned exterior through controlled roasting steps.
Ingredients
- 1 turkey breast (about 3 pounds)
- orange zest
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 2 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil or olive oil
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Honey Orange Sauce - Optional:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger freshly grated
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
- 1/4 cup orange juice
- 1 teaspoon orange zest
- 2/3 cup water
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Cover the bottom of a roasting pan with foil and drizzle with vegetable or olive oil. Set aside.
- In a medium bowl combine: orange zest, orange juice, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, vegetable oil, honey, salt and pepper.
- Start by rubbing the mixture all over the turkey breast. Then, place the turkey in the roasting pan, make sure you pour the remaining sauce mixture on top. Cover with foil and transfer to the oven.
- Roast for about 1 1/2 hours. Remove the foil for the last 30 minutes for the turkey breast to brown nicely. The internal temperature of the turkey breast should be at 165 F degrees once done cooking.
- Once cooked, slice it up and serve with your favorite sides dishes and drizzled with Honey Orange Sauce.
Honey Orange Sauce - Optional:
- Combine water with cornstarch in a small cup until cornstarch is fully dissolved. Set aside.
- Place a medium skillet over medium heat. Once warm, add the olive oil and wait for it to start sizzling.
- Once the oil starts sizzling, add minced garlic, grated ginger and pepper flakes. Immediately stir to combine, to avoid burning the mixture.
- Add the rest of the ingredients to the pan, including the cornstarch mixture. Stir to combine.
- Continue to stir and cook until the mixture starts to lightly simmer and it thickens. Remove from heat and serve with the turkey.
