Overnight Breakfast Strata
Description
Overnight Breakfast Strata begins by buttering a baking dish and layering slices of bread at the bottom, topped with thinly sliced spam or ham and shredded cheddar cheese, then covered with remaining bread slices. An egg, milk, and dry mustard powder mixture is whisked and poured over the assembled casserole, which is refrigerated overnight to soak. Before baking, crushed corn flakes or potato chips are sprinkled on top for a crunchy crust. Baking at 350°F for an hour sets the mixture into a custardy, firm texture. The strata can be garnished with sliced cherry tomatoes to add freshness and color. This dish serves as a hearty breakfast or brunch option where savory, creamy, and crunchy elements combine.
Ingredients
- 12 lices bread
- 8 ounces SPAM thinly sliced, or ham
- 1/2 cup cheddar cheese shredded
- 6 egg
- 3 cups milk
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder dry
