Overnight Steel Cut Oats

Overnight Steel Cut Oats are prepared by briefly simmering steel cut oats before refrigerating them overnight, yielding a chewy texture with a creamy consistency. This method softens the oats without overcooking, preserving their nutty flavor. Served cold with toppings like banana slices, berries, or seeds, the oats offer a customizable, convenient breakfast.

Description

To make Overnight Steel Cut Oats, steel cut oats are combined with water and a pinch of sea salt, brought to a boil, quickly simmered for one minute, then removed from heat and cooled. Transferring the mixture to a covered container and refrigerating overnight continues gentle softening without turning the oats mushy.

The result is tender oats with a slightly chewy bite and natural nutty flavor intact. This preparation is served cold and can be topped with ingredients such as banana slices, berries, hemp seeds, chia seeds, or maple syrup according to personal taste.

This method offers a time-saving approach to enjoy steel cut oats without lengthy morning cooking. It also ensures a consistent texture and easy portability in jars or containers for on-the-go breakfasts.

  2. Transfer to a container with a lid, cover and place in the fridge overnight.
  3. The next morning, portion the oatmeal into jars. The recipe should make 2 servings.
  4. Add toppings of choice and enjoy cold. I love banana slices, berries, chopped nuts, chia seeds and nut butter for toppings.
