Paloma Cocktail
Description
Paloma Cocktail is characterized by fresh grapefruit juice and lime juice combined with tequila, providing bright, tangy citrus flavors. Sugar is added to balance the natural bitterness and acidity of the juices, though it can be omitted for a less sweet drink. The mixture is stirred well, poured over ice in a salt-rimmed glass, and topped with club soda for carbonation and lightness.
The drink's salt rim enhances the overall taste by contrasting the tartness and adding a savory element. Garnishing with a wedge of grapefruit or a peel adds aroma and visual appeal. Adjusting the tequila or dilution with extra soda allows customization of strength and balance.
Using freshly squeezed lime juice is recommended to avoid the bitterness commonly found in bottled juice. Cane sugar alternatives like agave or sugar syrup can be used if preferred for sweetening.
Ingredients
- salt for rim, sea salt
- 2 oz grapefruit juice fresh , 60mL
- 1 tbsp lime juice fresh, 15mL
- 1 tsp sugar 5g
- 2 oz tequila 60mL
- 2 oz club soda 60mL
- grapefruit or peel for garnish, wedge
Instructions
- Salt glass. Add in juices and sugar, stir until dissolved.
- Add in tequila and stir.
- Add ice and soda water.
- Garnish with grapefruit peel or slice.
Notes
- Omitting sugar results in a less sweet Paloma but may affect balance due to club soda's lack of sweetness.
- Adjust cocktail strength by allowing ice to melt or adding more club soda.
- Use fresh lime juice for best flavor; bottled lime juice may have a bitter aftertaste.
- Agave syrup or sugar syrup can replace granulated sugar as sweeteners.
