Parmesan Orzo Recipe

Parmesan Orzo is a simple side dish where orzo pasta is toasted in butter, then simmered in chicken broth with garlic powder until tender. Finished with freshly grated Parmesan cheese, the orzo becomes creamy and flavorful, making it a versatile accompaniment to a variety of main courses. Its small grain-like shape allows it to absorb the broth well, delivering a rich and comforting texture.

Description

The Parmesan Orzo Recipe starts by lightly toasting orzo pasta in melted butter, which adds a subtle nutty flavor and prevents sticking. Then, chicken broth is poured in along with garlic powder, and the mixture is gently heated so the liquid absorbs fully as the orzo cooks. Stirring regularly ensures even cooking and that the pasta doesn’t stick or cook unevenly.

As the broth is absorbed, the tender orzo takes on a creamy consistency, which is enhanced by the addition of freshly grated Parmesan cheese stirred in at the end. The cheese melts smoothly into the pasta, contributing both savory depth and richness. The result is a delicately flavored, soft side dish with subtle buttery and cheesy notes.

This orzo pairs well with poultry, pork, or vegetable dishes and can be served warm immediately. Preparation is straightforward, requiring few ingredients and minimal effort, making it a practical choice for weeknight meals or when a quick but satisfying side is desired.

Servings
  • 1 c. orzo
  • 1 Tbsp butter
  • 14.5 oz chicken broth
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 c. Parmesan Cheese freshly grated

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan combine the orzo and butter. Melt butter over medium heat and stir regularly. Lightly toast the orzo. This should take about 2-3 minutes.
