Party Ham and Cheese Sliders Recipe
Description
The Party Ham and Cheese Sliders consist of dinner rolls split horizontally and spread with an onion and chive flavored cream cheese mixture seasoned with garlic powder. Inside, thin slices of ham and sharp white cheddar provide savory layers. Before baking, a sauce made from butter, minced onion, garlic, parsley, and mustard is warmed and brushed over the tops and edges of the sliders, promoting a golden crust and infused taste. Baking them together on a foil-lined pan encourages the cheese to melt uniformly and the rolls to soak up some of the buttery sauce.
The sliders combine soft, sweet dinner rolls with creamy and sharp elements, balanced by the buttery, herbed topping. They are best served warm and can be sliced apart quickly for easy serving during parties or casual meals. The method allows for preparation ahead of time by assembling and refrigerating before baking, making it convenient to serve fresh.
The recipe notes suggest serving the sliders soon after baking for the best melty texture and to slice them for easy handling. Leftovers reheat well in a toaster oven or conventional oven, with close attention to avoid burning the topping. The recipe can be doubled by following the same steps, making it scalable for larger groups.
Ingredients
For the Sliders:
- 12 dinner rolls or rolls of your choice, Hawaiian style
- 5 oz cream cheese onion and chive flavored, very soft
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- 10 oz ham thinly sliced
- 6 oz cheddar cheese thinly sliced, sharp, white
For the Topping Sauce:
- 4 TB butter salted
- ¼ cup onion minced
- 1 TB garlic minced, clove
- 1 TB parsley chopped
- 1 tsp mustard your favorite style
Instructions
- Prepare Sandwiches: Slice dinner rolls in half horizontally. Stir softened cream cheese with 1 tsp garlic powder until well combined and spreadable - I microwave cream cheese 20 sec or so, to get it extra soft.
- Evenly spread cream cheese mixture onto the top/bottom centers of split rolls. Place bottom halves onto baking sheet. Evenly layer each bottom roll with ham and cheese. Place top halves of dinner rolls over the filling. If not baking right away, cover airtight (I often use another sheet pan of the same size, or just cover tightly with foil) and chill until ready to bake.
- When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350F with rack on lower middle position. Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil and set aside.
- Make the Topping Sauce: In a saucepan, combine all sauce ingredients over low heat. Stir until melted and incorporated. When ready to bake sliders, Brush butter mixture evenly over the tops and edges of sliders. Try to get most of the butter mixture to sit on top of rolls.
- Cover loosely with foil and bake for 15 minutes or until cheese is melty. Remove foil and bake 8-10 minutes more or until tops are nicely golden; watch closely towards end of bake time so that tops don't burn. If your sliders are still connected, carefully cut into individual sliders so they're easy for people to grab and go. Be careful, they'll be very hot!
Notes
- Slice sliders prior to serving to enable easy grab-and-go portions.
- Leftover sliders reheat well in toaster or conventional ovens; monitor closely to prevent the topping from burning.
- Prepare and assemble sliders ahead, storing covered in the refrigerator until baking time.
- The recipe can be doubled exactly to serve more guests without adjusting the steps.
