Patty Melt

The Patty Melt combines ground beef patties seasoned with Worcestershire sauce, seared to juicy tenderness, with caramelized onions and melted Swiss or cheddar cheese layered on sliced sourdough or rye bread. It is grilled with butter to a golden crust, creating a sandwich with a warm, savory filling and crisp, buttery bread.

Description

Patty Melt begins by slow-cooking sliced yellow onions in butter until golden and softly caramelized, developing rich sweetness and depth. Meanwhile, ground beef is seasoned with Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper, formed into thin patties matching the bread size. Cooking the patties in butter delivers a flavorful crust while keeping the center juicy. The sandwich layers dressing or Dijon mustard(optional), cheese, caramelized onions, and the beef patty between slices of sourdough or rye bread. The assembled sandwiches are then grilled in butter until the bread is golden brown and the cheese fully melts, resulting in a savory, hearty sandwich with contrasting textures and balanced flavors.

Make-ahead options for beef patties allow preparation in advance for quicker assembly. The sandwich’s flavor is driven by the combination of sweet onions, sharp cheese, and seasoned beef, complemented by the toasty bread and optional condiments. This patty melt is suited for a filling lunch or casual dinner.
