Peach Crumble

Report
Peach Crumble is a baked dessert featuring sliced peaches mixed with brown sugar, lemon juice, vanilla, and cinnamon, topped with a crumbly mixture of flour, sugar, pecans, and butter. The topping bakes to a golden crust while the peaches become tender and juicy. This dessert offers a combination of sweet and slightly tangy peach filling beneath a textured, buttery crumble. It is ideal for using ripe peaches and serves well with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for added richness.

Description

Peach Crumble combines slices of fresh or peeled peaches with brown sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and cinnamon for a balanced fruit filling. The peaches soften and release their juices as they bake in a lightly greased casserole dish. The topping made from flour, sugar, pecans, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, egg, and melted butter forms a golden, slightly crunchy layer that contrasts with the soft filling.

Baking at 375°F for about 35 to 40 minutes allows the topping to brown evenly and the peach filling to bubble around the edges, signaling readiness. The finished dish can be served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, adding creaminess to the sweet and tart dessert.

The recipe allows for pecan omission if preferred. Using fresh peaches is recommended for better texture and flavor, but frozen peaches can be an alternative. Leftover crumble can be stored in the refrigerator for up to three days.

Crumble topping:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup pecans chopped (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1/4 cup butter melted and cooled, unsalted
  • vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly grease or butter a 13x9 casserole dish. Set aside.
  2. Place peaches in a large mixing bowl. Add brown sugar, flour, lemon juice, vanilla and cinnamon. Toss to coat. Spread peaches into an even layer in the bottom of the casserole dish.
  3. To make the topping, combine flour, sugar, pecans (if using), baking powder, cinnamon and salt. Stir in egg until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over the peaches, then drizzle butter over topping.
  4. Bake 35 to 40 minutes, until lightly browned and filling is bubbling around the edges. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Frozen peaches may be used, but fresh peaches typically yield the best texture and flavor.
  • Pecans in the crumble topping are optional and can be omitted if desired.
  • Refrigerate any leftovers within three days to maintain freshness.
