Peanut Butter Coffee
Description
This Peanut Butter Coffee recipe starts by placing a tablespoon of creamy peanut butter into a heat-proof glass, then adding freshly brewed hot coffee to dissolve the peanut butter without blending. Milk is stirred in to create a creamy texture, with brown sugar added as sweetener, although alternatives like maple syrup or white sugar may be used. The drink balances the robust flavor of coffee with the nutty richness of peanut butter and smoothness from milk. For a form similar to café-style drinks, the milk can be frothed or the mixture shaken vigorously in a sealed jar to create foam. Variations include using espresso or cold brew coffee, which may require blending to mix thoroughly. This beverage can be enjoyed on its own or with peanut or brown sugar cookies.
Ingredients
- 1 Cup coffee Substitute: 2 shots of espresso. If you want to use cold brew, you need to blend the mixture. Using hot coffee dissolves the peanut butter without needing blending, hot, freshly made
- 1 Tablespoon peanut butter I don't recommend chunky, unless you want chopped nuts in your coffee! Use a cookie/ small ice-cream scoop if you have it- makes it easier to get the sticky butter out of the spoon and into the cup!, creamy
- ½ Cup milk Substitute: milk of your choice. You may want to add more peanut butter if you use vegan milk which is lighter in texture to make the peanut butter coffee creamier, whole
- 1-2 Tablepoons brown sugar Substitute: white sugar, maple syrup or brown sugar syrup. I don't recommend honey as heat destroys the nutrients in it. For sugar-free options, click here.
Instructions
- Add the Tablespoon of peanut butter to a heat-proof glass. Tip: Using a small cookie scoop makes it easier to get the sticky butter out of the spoon
- Pour in the freshly made hot coffee- it has to be hot to dissolve the peanut butter without blending. Stir well till dissolved.Tip: If using coffee powder, scoop the powder onto the peanut butter, then add the freshly boiled water.
- Add milk and mix. I use half as much milk as coffee but you can add more or less depending on your preference. Goes well served with a peanut cookie or dark brown sugar cookie!
Notes
- Froth the milk before adding it for a creamy, foamy texture; dust with cocoa powder if desired.
- For faster frothing, mix peanut butter and hot coffee in a sealed jar and shake vigorously until frothy.
- When preparing coffee for multiple people, blending all ingredients ensures smooth and homogeneous mixing.
- Store any extra peanut butter coffee in the fridge for up to one day or freeze in ice cube trays to chill future drinks without dilution.
