Peanut Butter Popcorn

Peanut Butter Popcorn is air-popped popcorn coated evenly with a warm caramel-like sauce made from corn syrup, sugar, and peanut butter. The mixture is cooked until smooth and poured over the popcorn, then spread in a single layer to set. The finished snack combines crunchy popcorn with a rich, slightly sticky peanut butter glaze that hardens on cooling, creating a sweet and nutty treat.

Description

This recipe starts with freshly popped popcorn, preferably air-popped or butter-free microwave style to keep a neutral base. In a saucepan over medium heat, corn syrup and white sugar are melted and cooked together until the sugar dissolves and the mixture appears caramelized. Peanut butter is added and stirred thoroughly for a smooth sauce, which continues to cook briefly before removal.

The warm peanut butter sauce is immediately poured over the popcorn and tossed to coat every piece. The coated popcorn is spread in a single layer on a greased cookie sheet to cool and harden, taking four hours or overnight. The result is popcorn with a crisp, peanut butter-flavored coating that provides a crisp texture and sweet, nutty flavor.

This snack can be stored in an airtight container after setting and makes a shareable treat for events or casual snacking. It balances sticky sweetness with the airy crunch of popcorn.

Ingredients

Servings

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups Popcorn
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter

Instructions

Directions:

  1. Pop your popcorn as desired. Air-popped is best, but butter-free microwave popcorn works.
  2. Spray a cookie sheet with cooking oil and set aside.
  3. Place the corn syrup and white sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir continuously, until the white sugar is completely melted and the mixture takes on a caramel appearance, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add the Peanut Butter and stir in completely. Continue to cook for one more minute before removing from heat.
  5. Immediately pour the Peanut Butter mixture over the popcorn and stir to coat completely.
  6. Spread the Peanut Butter popcorn over the cookie sheet in a single layer. Let set for 4 hours or overnight until no longer tacky to the touch.
  7. Break up the Peanut Butter popcorn and store in an airtight container until ready to serve.
