Pear Crisp

This simple pear crisp is a must for fall baking! Sweet cinnamon and ginger spiced pears are topped with a crumbly oat topping and baked until browned and bubbly.

Ingredients

Filling

  • 2 1/2 pounds pears, sliced approximately 1/4 inch thick
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract, optional
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt

Topping

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup white whole wheat flour, all purpose, or gluten-free
  • 1/3 cup dark brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons chopped toasted pecans
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F. Add the peeled and sliced pears to a large mixing bowl. Add in the remaining filling ingredients, then stir together gently until combined.
  2. In a smaller mixing bowl combine all of the topping ingredients except the melted butter. Stir together to combine and then pour in the butter.
  3. Stir together until crumbles form and then sprinkle evenly over the top of the pears. Bake in a 9 inch cast iron skillet or an 8x8 baking pan for 40-45 minutes or until the top is browned and the filling is bubbly. Let the crisp cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Check the crisp at 30 minutes and if the topping is getting too brown cover it loosely with a piece of foil.
